Opening ceremony of the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS

SOLARIS, a unique research infrastructure in Central Eastern Europe, will shortly be involved in joint collaboration with CERIC-ERIC.
The National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS, which will already be working in 2016, was inaugurated on the 21st of September 2015, with an opening ceremony organized by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University – Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the Director of the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS – Prof. Marek Stankiewicz.
The event took place in the experimental hall of the synchrotron and was honored by the presence of members of local and central government, rectors of universities in Kraków and representatives of the world of science, from both Poland and abroad. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Mrs. Ewa Kopacz – accepted honorary patronage of this event.
The opening ceremony was also the completion of the process of construction of the first Polish synchrotron and was part of the celebration of the International Year of Light – the name given to 2015 by UNESCO.
A delegation from the Swedish Synchrotron MAX IV Laboratory was among the guests. Based on a cooperation agreement signed between the Jagiellonian University and the University of Lund, the two synchrotron radiation centers have been built simultaneously in Poland and Sweden.
Medicine, pharmacology, physics and archeology – all these and many other fields of science – will find a common space of research in SOLARIS.
