OPV Stability
Organic photovoltaics (OPV) are a promising technology for emission-free electricity production. However, their lifetime must be extended to ensure a large commercial impact. The OPV Stability project (Understanding, Predicting, and Enhancing the Stability of Organic Photovoltaics) takes up the challenge by supporting the research of ten different PhD students.
With the guidance of the project’s supervisors, the PhDs will investigate OPV stability from different perspectives, identifying stable structural motifs and device architectures for efficient organic photovoltaics while developing an in-depth understanding of their degradation mechanism. This will open the path for the next-generation OPV. From an educational point of view, the project offers an excellent training program and a person-centred career for PhD students. Thanks to the combination of universities, industrial companies, and research facilities, an interdisciplinary environment has been established for them.
OBJECTIVES
- Developing an in-depth understanding of the OPV’s degradation mechanisms
- Identifying stable structural motifs and architectures for efficient organic photovoltaics
- Offering an excellent training program
CERIC’S ROLE
- CERIC contributes to the project by opening one new PhD position under the supervision of Dr Heinz Amenitsch from Technische Universität Graz and Dr. Giuliana Aquilanti from Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste (respectively CERIC Austrian and Italian partner facilities), offering training workshops, and collaborating with the project coordinator on communication and dissemination activities.
