PRESS RELEASE: BSBF 2024: a CERIC-AREA workshop on the hydrogen economy

|

Trieste – 30 September 2024 – Tomorrow, 1 October, will be held the event ‘Hydrogen and Big Science: Innovation, Challenges and Future’, organised by CERIC and Area Science Park as part of the Big Science Business Forum 2024 (BSBF2024), scheduled in Trieste (Italy) from 1 to 4 October. BSBF is a business-oriented forum focused on high technology and innovation, which aims to become the main meeting point between large research infrastructures and industry in Europe.

The workshop, scheduled from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the Luttazzi Room of Magazzino 26 in Trieste’s Porto Vecchio, will be an opportunity to discuss, through a series of presentations and round tables, the main innovations in the field of hydrogen research, policies under development, industrial applications and challenges concerning this energy resource – which is so important for the development of sustainable production models – not only from an economic, but also from a social and environmental point of view.  Among the speakers, many important names from the Italian and European scientific panorama, the world of industry, and important international institutions.

The event, which will be introduced by the President of Area Science Park, Caterina Petrillo, and the Executive Director of CERIC, Jana Kolar, is divided into three discussion sessions addressing the main issues for sustaining the hydrogen value chain, from research to market:

1) Research: Innovations for the future – leading names from European research institutions will highlight in their presentations the most important and recent scientific innovations, such as solutions for the mechanical reinforcement of ion exchange membranes, a major challenge for hydrogen-based technologies.

2) Policy: the challenges for the hydrogen value chain – this round table will discuss the energy policies, consistent and in line with international development goals needed to ensure innovation in the hydrogen field (given that frequent policy changes undermine confidence in long-term investments);

3) Industry: Key aspects for hydrogen success – this round table will discuss the main bottlenecks and enabling factors for the development and maintenance of a large-scale hydrogen value chain at all stages (from hydrogen production to its transportation, exploring possible end markets as well), the possible game changer innovations, and the collaboration between industry and research.
